Napoleon Bonaparte was one of the most notorious emperors, and Napoleon quotes sure show it.

Napoleon’s story began at just 15 years old when he started his historic military career. He studied and trained in France, his home country. Napoleon was actually born on Corsica, a French island that was under Italian control right before Napoleon’s birth. In fact, Napoleon’s father’s last name was Buonaparte, the Italian version of Bonaparte. Nevertheless, Napoleon was proudly French, choosing to keep the French rather than the Italian version of his full name.

Napoleon Bonaparte quotes

It wasn’t Napoleon’s roots that made him famous. It was how highly trained of a military strategist he was. Napoleon worked diligently, rising through the ranks as the French Revolution raged. His successes came from his dedication to one clear goal – to make French a true European Empire once again, with his face at the helm of it all.

Napoleon undoubtedly succeeded. In 1804, Napoleon officially became the Emperor of France. Not just France the modern-day country as we know it today –  we’re talking about the French Empire that Napoleon created. He conquered nearly all of present-day Europe.

How? Well, this control resulted from one remarkable triumph in particular. Napoleon successfully dissolved the Holy Roman Empire, giving France control of Spain, Sweden, Italy, and, well, a huge chunk of Europe.

Of course, a relentless Emperor like Napoleon had to meet his demise. He went into exile after Paris fell to Austria, Russian, and Prussian armies in 1814. Although Napoleon did return to power, as many historians call it for his famous Hundred Days, the French Emperor met his demise once again at the famous Battle of Waterloo that same year.

Napoleon quotes

So, Napoleon found himself exiled once again, this time on Saint Helena island. This is where Napoleon passed away in 1821. From what, do you ask? Well, history claims stomach cancer, just like Napoleon’s father. But, many believe Napoleon was poisoned slowly with arsenic. The debate on this still carries on, as Napoleon was a very contentious man in European history.

One way we can carry on this French Emperor’s legacy is through his words. I mean, a man who wanted the world must have some fascinating things to say, right?
